History
With the establishment of Paralympic organizations around the world and the Turkish Federation of Sports for the Physically Disabled, a new chapter has opened in the access of individuals with physical disabilities to sports. Today, we have transformed from an institution that merely served people with disabilities, aimed to attract their interest, or tried to do so, into a large community recognized by all sports enthusiasts—an organization that hosts 21 branches, draws the attention of the sports public with its global achievements, and stands out as a successful sports institution.
The greatest architects of this transformation are undoubtedly our athletes—who work tirelessly, possess great potential, and continually surprise us by raising the bar even higher. Of course, we must also open a special parenthesis for our volunteers. We are immensely pleased to witness the steady increase in the number of volunteers each year. After all, our geography is the homeland of loyalty, effort, diligence, and compassion.
Thanks to the energy created by the athletes, coaches, managers, and supporters we have brought together since our establishment—through their efforts, sacrifices, and leadership—millions of young people today are inspired to dream even bigger. While years ago our citizens with disabilities struggled to access sports opportunities, today they compete with one another with the dream of raising our flag at the World Paralympic Games.
As the Board of Directors and our technical team, we continue to work so that our athletes can dream even more. We aspire to stand on the podium more often in international competitions, to represent our country with more athletes at the Olympics, to increase our number of gold medals, to create greater awareness regarding access of individuals with disabilities to sports, to make our environment more accessible, to attain modern sports facilities, and ultimately to host the World Paralympic Games. We would be honored to move forward together on this journey.
